According to the National Family Health Survey-5 survey, about 23 per cent of girls got married before attaining the legal age of 18 years, which is responsible for giving birth to malnourished children. What is worrying is that most of the deaths of children under 5 years of age in low or middle income countries are due to undernutrition. Actually, children are the future of a country. The children of the present determine the direction and condition of the future nation. Due to lack of proper nutrition, not everyone gets the proper benefits of education and the learning ability of the child also gets affected. A malnourished child cannot concentrate on studies. In India, drop outs also occur due to these reasons. The drop out ratio at primary and secondary level is around 5 percent, whereas in higher education it is around 18 percent and it is education that determines the progress of a person. This is the reason why a malnourished person, due to being physically and mentally unwell, is not able to perform strongly at the education, health and economic levels, which weakens the performance of the Human Development Index of a nation. Apart from this, since due to lack of proper nutrition a person becomes lean, thin, weak or becomes a victim of many diseases, which also reduces his income earning opportunities. As a result, he is also deprived of the right to a dignified life which is provided in the Indian Constitution. Thus, a malnourished person cannot emerge as an efficient human resource for the nation and instead of contributing to the progress of the country, he becomes an obstacle to the national progress. Although India has achieved considerable success in reducing the problem of malnutrition over the years, still a lot remains to be done to achieve the target set at the global level. In the last decade, serious efforts have been made to prepare a strategy for Sustainable Development Goal-2 set by the World Health Organization by the year 2025. The Government of India is also promoting various programs to deal with this problem. Under this, nutrition campaign is an important campaign. Launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, it aims to reduce stunting, wasting, anemia and malnutrition among children, adolescents and women. However, now Nutrition 2.0 Mission has also been implemented which is a major program dedicated to maternal and child nutrition.
