Women are doomed to live in perpetual poverty because they are not financially independent. Work has to be done to increase their contribution to GDP. There is an emphasis on increasing their participation in agriculture related and non-agricultural activities in urban and rural areas. Women do a lot of unpaid work, which do not have any economic identity, due to which they are not able to do other work which could be of economic benefit, hence they are not empowered, work will be done on this. Agriculture sector- The role of women in agriculture sector should be increased, so that they can also get recognition as farmers. Emphasis on expansion of ‘Krishi Sakhi Yojana’, so that they can be given training in various fields of agriculture. Women also know a lot traditionally, which is important to use. Industrial Sector- As the secondary sector of the economy grows, women's participation in it should also increase in the same way. For this, women's participation in work, type of work and their contribution to GDP will be continuously monitored. It will be ensured that women get equal opportunities in these areas. Women's training, skill development etc. will be promoted in traditional, new and emerging sectors. Maternity leave, sexual harassment, child care leave etc. will be implemented in a better manner. Similarly, similar provisions have been made in the service sector also. Administration and policy making- Emphasis is on increasing the presence of women in the legislature, executive and judiciary, 50 percent in local administration and 33 percent in the Assembly and Lok Sabha. The bill for 33 percent reservation has now been passed in the Parliament. Efforts will be made in this direction to increase their participation in civil service and justice system, to ensure increase in their participation in trade unions, political parties and corporate sectors. Violence against women- Efforts to reduce all types of violence against women and for its prompt disposal will be promoted. Female feticide is a social evil, which is being eradicated through awareness and efforts are being made to improve the sex ratio along with emphasis on preventing trafficking of women and children. There are provisions to prevent exploitation of disabled women. Women face many problems regarding dowry, hence Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 is in force. Apart from this, the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 talks about protecting them from physical, sexual abuse, emotional and economic violence. Overall the new policy will only empower them further. Similarly, attention has been given to other areas also.
